You will need to log in to access this area…
FTP is short for File Transfer Protocol. It is basically what lets you upload and download files directly to your web space. Once uploaded, people will be able to see the web pages, images and files you have uploaded online.
You can use an FTP client, HTML editing software, your browser's inbuilt FTP functionality (go to: ftp://yourdomain.com) or through your online control panel. For ease of use, try starting with your HTML editing software if you have this available.
There are many types of FTP clients available to upload files to your website. We recommend using a free client called: FileZilla or a slightly more advanced client called: FlashFXP. Others include: SmartFTP, CuteFTP and FTP Voyager.
All HTML authoring programs will include FTP, so you can design and upload pages and files efficiently from one place.
Most files will be placed in the remote directory: public_html (all public files go in this folder or directory). Don't worry, your FTP client or HTML editing software will go here automatically.
To make your website well-organised, it is a good idea to place web pages, images, downloads, etc. in their own separate directories. If you want to upload files out side this public area, you will need to browse above the public_html directory to your root directory.
You can use index.php, index.htm, index.shtml, ... in fact most types of pages will work as the default page for your website (or directory) as long as it is called “index”.
